Here’s a question we got from a reader using both Twitter and Foursquare
I would like to ensure that Foursquare tweets are filtered out from my Twitter timeline, as they become kind of annoying. What should i do in order to ensure they don’t become part of my feed?
Thanks for the question. As of the time of writing this post, there still isn’t a way to block tweets by source (i.e. Foursquare) natively. But, luckily there are several workarounds to help you stay focused and get (eventually 🙂 ) your work done.
With Twitter Web:
If you use Twitter’s web interface for tweeting and Google Chrome for browsing, all you need to do is install a simple Chrome extension called Proxlet. All you need to do is get into the extension’s option and hide tweets containing the prefix “http://4sq.com“. Since all Foursquare tweets contain that URL prefix, they won’t be visible on Twitter.
With TweetDeck:
If you use TweetDeck regularly to manage your Twitter account , then, there is probably a more elegant solution for you to check. TweetDeck has a solid way to stopping those somewhat annoying Foursquare updates, here’s what you have to do:
- First off, go ahead and open TweetDeck and hit the little wrench button (Settings) at the top right of the TweetDeck interface.
- In the TweetDeck settings window that just opened, navigate to the ‘Global Filter’ tab.
- Under ‘From Sources’ type Foursquare and then hit ‘Save settings’.
Other Twitter clients have useful filter options and you can definitely make use of them.
