How to restrict and control attendance in Zoom Meetings?

Here’s a question from a reader:

I hosted a client call recently in Zoom meetings. I had to start the meeting without the waiting room enabled, as I did not find it under the options. As a result, it seems to me that we got more unknown participants in the meeting. My management has asked me to enable the waiting room and then add the required participants for the next meeting. So can you please let me know where I can find the waiting room options during the meeting?

Thanks for your question. We will learn how to enable the waiting room and turn on the sound when anyone joins (or) leave (or) wait in the lobby in the Zoom meeting.

Enable Zoom Waiting Rooms for your account

  • Select the Settings under the personal tab on the left panel.
  • Scroll down in the Security and select the toggle switch to enable the Waiting Room.

Enable sound notifications when people join or leave

  • Login to the Zoom webpage and click on My Account.
  • Select the Settings under the personal tab on the left panel.
  • Scroll down in In meeting (Basic) section and turn on the toggle the Sound notification when someone joins… switch.
  • For other participants to get notified by the sound, select Everyone under Play sound.
  • We can also select Host & Co-hosts only if we don’t need other participants to get notified by the sound.

Managing attendance during a Zoom meeting

  • During the meeting to manage participants, click on Participants.
  • Click on the Ellipsis icon. Here we can enable/disable sound notification and waiting room.
