How to restore the recycle bin icon ?
Not long ago, Shankar proposed a Windows XP registry tweak that will allow you to remove the recycle bin from your desktop. Today, i would like to show you the opposite trick, namely, how to restore the recycle bin icon after it was removed from your Windows XP desktop.
Remember: the implementation of the following trick requires that you manually modify the system registry. This is an advanced task that if done incorrectly can break your operating system and cause a severe data loss. Implement this trick at your own risk.
- Backup the registry file. Use the instructions provided in section 2 here.
- Click Start, the click Run and type Regedit to open your Registry Editor.
- Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace. - Right click it, click New and then Key.
- Type {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} and click enter.
- Go to the right pane, right click the newly created key and double click Default.
- Assign a name of your choice to the Recycle bin icon.
- Click OK and close the registry editor.
- Go to your desktop, the Recycle Bin icon is now restored.
Note: This trick applies to Windows XP - in Vista, it can be done without manipulating the registry.

Remove Shortcut Arrows in Windows XP desktop icons
Desktop Shortcut Icons are often associated with a shortcut arrow by default on Windows, and if you find them annoying and want to remove the shortcut arrow on icons, here’s what you have to do: If you used the Windows calculator in the past, you might agree that its feature set is somewhat limited. The calculator is not capable to do conversions (currency, measures, temperature etc’) , which is a quite basic function in any scientific pocket calculator. Not long ago, a colleague asked me if i am familiar with a simple trick he can use in order to get rid of the (annoying?) desktop cleaning wizard. This Windows XP utility usually pops up every 60 days and prompts you to clean up unused desktop icons. Sometimes you would like to find what your IP (Internet Protocol) address. Let’s just understand what’s that IP address thing first: From Webopedia: An IP address is an identifier for a computer or device on a TCP/IP network. Networks using the TCP/IP protocol route messages based on the IP address of the destination. The format of an IP address is a 32-bit numeric address written as four numbers separated by periods. Each number can be zero to 255. How you find your computer IP address ? In this post i would like to highlight two useful methods that we can use in order to backup our Windows XP or Windows Vista Registry. The first is suitable for periodic backups of the entire registry, that you should execute as a part of your system backup strategy. The second method is useful in cases you would like to modify a certain value in one of the registry subkeys using the Registry Editor. Here’s an easy tweak that if implemented, can speed up your Windows XP system by 10-20%. The beautiful thing about this tweak is that it doesn’t involve any changes to the Windows Registry.Speed up your conversions with Windows Calculator Plus
