Gmail is one of the best web mail services available, and makes a great use of AJAX technology. Probably because of this, Gmail loads slow during login for many people. Here are some tweaks for making Gmail load faster.

Use Basic HTML page

Click here to activate the basic HTML page for Gmail. This will considerably reduce Gmail loading time since the pages are just plain HTML, and do not have Javascript embedded. The option is also available in Gmail’s footer.

Add https://

Some people believe that replacing http:// in Gmail’s URL with https:// considerably decreases loading time, and makes Gmail load faster. Try it by clicking here.

Let’s know how these tips worked for you via the comments.

Using Hotmail as your free web based email service? If so, you might want to keep your account secure by periodically changing its password. Here's a simple procedure that will allow you to modify your Hotmail password in seconds.

If you happen to be thinking how to delete your MSN Hotmail (now Live) account, you better be aware of two facts:

1) If you cancel your MSN account, someone can later on claim that email address, and potentially receive emails which were meant to be sent to you, and in worst cases, steal your online identity.

2) Your MSN account is in most cases your Microsoft passport, which you use in order to access not only Hotmail or Live Mail, but all other Microsoft web sites that require authentication.

Therefore, in case you want to get rid from your Hotmail, my suggestion is not to delete your MSN account, but just to stop using it. After 90 days of not being used, your account will turn to be inactive, however you’ll retain the account ownership, and thus prevent your account from being hijacked by others and your online identity and good reputation jeopardized.

Want to get rid of your Yahoo mail account ? Read on to find out how you can delete it, but mind the caveat.

Deleting a Yahoo Mail account

Question:

I want to delete my Yahoo account. How can i achieve it?

Answer:

A few caveats before you go ahead and start the process of getting rid of your Yahoo ID:

Even after you delete your yahoo mail account and ID, people will be able to send you emails for 90 days following the account deletion.

If you delete your Yahoo! email account you are actually also deleting your Yahoo! page, Yahoo! Geocities page, your Yahoo! Jobs profile and other Yahoo! services.

After deleting your account you won’t be able to re-create it.

If you subscribed to any premium services (business hosting etc’), cancel those firstbefore you delete your account. Yahoo! doesn’t guarantee that deleting your Yahoo account will immediately cancel the billing for any premium services you’re subscribed to. This is a crucial point if you are hosting your website or blog with Yahoo!.

If you still want to delete proceed as following:

Grab your list of contacts and update them that your yahoo email address won’t be active any more (remember, mails might reach your yahoo account in the following 90 days without you be able to read them.

Navigate to the termination page and click Terminate.

An alternative approach which I recommend in case you don’t want to use Yahoo! email any more, is to simply stop using it. After 90 days of no activity, Yahoo will automatically close your account.
