How to start page numbering from the second page on a Word document?
Here’s a question from Melinda,
Hi, I am writing a book using Microsoft Word 2010. The first page is obviously the front cover, so I’d like to start the page numbering from the second page. Is there a way to do it?
Thanks for the question, Melinda. There is indeed a way to start page numbering the second page on Word documents, and we’ll guide you through the steps,
- Open up your document in Word, and add normal page numbering to it via Insert > Page Number > Bottom of Page / Top of Page > [choose your display style].

- Once you’ve inserted the page numbers, you will notice a new Header & Footer Tools at the top of the window. Click on it, and check the Different First Page option.

- Now go to Page Number > Format Page Numbers, and set the Start at value to 0. Click OK, and the page numbering will change to the way you wanted it!

Now that this Word page numbers issue is sort out, we’ll be looking forward for your book! ![]()
