How to password protect a PowerPoint 2007 presentation ?

Imagine for instance, that after working the entire day on an important presentation, you decide to save it on a network drive. On the next morning you discover that one of you colleagues had unintentionally modified your presentation (that’s the best case scenario, as i have heard about a bunch of individuals that realized that the presentation was changed only while presenting…).

You can easily avoid those sloppy situations by password protecting your presentations. As almost everything related to Office 2007, password protecting is easy but very different than in previous versions.

Here is the quick process:

  1. Create your Powerpoint  2007 presentation.
  2. Click the Microsoft Office Icon.
  3. Click Save As and pick Powerpoint Presentation.
  4. Click the Tools button (in the lower left side of the Save as prompt).
  5. Click General Options.
  6. Set a password to open and modify your Powerpoint presentation. Note that if you lose or forget your password you will to use a special Powerpoint password recovery tool in order to open or modify your presentation. Therefore i suggest that you make sure you keep the password in a safe place.
  7. Click OK and reenter your password.
